The following are among the questions frequently asked by prospective partners:
Q. Who manages Canterbury Racing Stables? A. The Managing Partner of Canterbury Racing Stables LLC is Thomas M. Daly, who consults with the various trainers and conditioners on all decisions affecting the Canterbury horses. You can learn more about the Canterbury management team in our "About Us" section of this site.
Q. Why was Canterbury Created? A. Tom Daly believes that hundreds of potential owners exist, unaware or uncertain as to the mechanics of getting started, searching for that dependable entry point to get into the game. Canterbury will be that entry point. Moreover, as a former syndicate member, Tom knows exactly how other investors want to be treated.
Q. Was there a precipitating event that caused you to establish Canterbury? A. Tom fondly recalls his first winner, Winelands, which was co-owned by a syndicate comprised of family, friends and co-workers. "We were standing in the Winner's Circle at the Meadowlands, on a cool, crisp, October night. I was absolutely elated...certainly because our horse won. But more because of the wide smiles plastered on the faces of my colleagues. It dawned on me that I helped fulfill their dreams. What a feeling!"
Q. What privileges will I receive if I invest in a Canterbury horse? A. As a Canterbury partner, you will become a licensed owner which entitles you to free racetrack admission, parking privileges, free race day programs, and access to the backstretch. In order to fully appreciate the perks of ownership, partners are encouraged to visit the backstretch/stable area, to watch their horses workout, and to experience the management of a racing stable. Due to liability reasons, and to ensure a safe, enjoyable visit, partners are asked to schedule all visits through the Canterbury office. On race day, partners can schedule lunch or dinner reservations, and request admission passes for their guests through our office. Prior to our specified race, partners convene in the paddock to meet the trainer and jockey, and to see their horse saddled for the race.On those fun-filled days when the Canterbury horses emerge victorious, partners can glide into the Winner's Circle for that magic moment, the taking of the Winner's Circle photograph! Each partner is subsequently furnished with this keepsake photograph, and additional copies may be requested from the racetrack.
Q. How do I stay abreast of the developments and the status of my horses? A. At Canterbury, we embrace the unique strengths of online communication through email and the Internet, but are firm believers that such forms were not meant to replace the 'old fashioned' face-to-face or direct telephone contact. Partners are encouraged to call the office to have their questions answered, or to arrange meetings with the managing partner. Additionally, partners receive financial statements detailing the income and expenses of each of their horses.
