ODEN'S TALE VICTORIOUS AT BELMONT
On October 14th jockey Angel Rodriguez guided Oden's Tale to his second lifetime victory when he just got up at the wire to win by a nose in this first level allowance test. Off at odds of 12 to 1, Oden's Tale broke alertly and tracked the leaders from third position. In the stretch, jockey Rodriguez took Oden's Tale off the rail, split horses, and made a charge to the wire that had all Canterbury partners on their feet screaming with excitement. At the wire, it appeared that Oden's Tale was victorious but it took a number of minutes for the placing judges to post the number 1, Oden's Tale, as the winner!

RETRIBUTION CAPTURES $100,000 ASHLEY T. COLE HANDICAP
The race started out simply enough. Retribution was in his usual spot on the lead as they entered the first turn. Down the backside thigs began to happen as the lead was five, then ten, then a whopping 15 lengths. Turning for home, jockey Chantal Sutherland tried to give Retribution a little breather on the deep and yielding turf course. At the 1/4 pole, Retribution was still motoring but the lead was down to 10 lengths. At the 1/8 pole, a number of horses started to chase, including the 2005 NY Bred Turf Male, Certifiably Crazy, who had sat in second position the entire race. Down to the wire it was still Retribution who had plenty left, to win by a comfortable 4 1/2 lenghts over a game Certifiably Crazy. This was Retribution's sixth career victory and second stakes victory, which increased his lifetime earnings to $291,000.

The milestone victory actually occurred at Belmont Park on July 8th, when jockey Fernando Jara guided Retribution to a five length win against open allowance horses. Winning trainer John Hertler was the first to receive a decorative stein to commemorate this event from Canterbury President, Tom Daly, who also thanked all of the partners for their support and dedication over the last five years!

CANTERBURY NOTCHES "50TH" CAREER VICTORY
On Saturday, July 8th, Retribution totally destroyed a field of open allowance horses at Belmont Park with a six length victory, stopping the clock in a sizzling 1:34.3 for the mile. Jockey Fernando Jara gunned Retribution from the gate and was able to negotiate the first quarter in 23.4 and the half in 47.1. As the field turned for home, Tiverton and Defer started to move up and it looked like it would be a battle royal to the wire. However, jockey Jara stepped on the gas and the race was over at the 1/16th pole. The final time gave Retribution his career best Beyer Speed Figure of 97 and sets him up nicely for Saratoga. The big horse cooled out fine after the race and you could tell that he was quite proud of a job well done.

WICKED SORCERESS ROMPS IN DEBUT AT THE BIG A
Wicked Sorceress, our three year old filly by Charismatic made her debut in spectacular fashion, easily dispatching a full field of 8 other New York bred fillies. Sent off at 12 to 1, jockey Jose Espinoza broke Wicked Sorceress sharply from the gate and then let her settle into third position on the rail while a speed duel developed between Majestic Risk and Rosie's Gal Ann. Heading into the far turn, Espinoza started to move up along the rail and in the stretch he moved Wicked to the outside, chirped in her ear and waved bye bye. She crossed the wire under a hand ride and won by 5 1/2 lengths.
Trainer Kim Laudati has now won with all three horses in the 2005 New York Bred Fund....next up....Nikki's Halo on February 23rd!

RETRIBUTION Wins Stallion Stakes
Canterbury Stables' RETRIBUTION, the only 3 y/o in the field of 10 colts and geldings, chalked up his third consecutive victory on Sunday, November 6th with a convincing wire to wire win in the $100,000 Cormorant Division of the New York Stallion Stakes.
Piloted by journeyman Cornelio Velasquez, Retribution sprung out of the gate and was hustled to the front where he rolled through the first quarter in 23.1, the half in 47.1 and six furlongs in 112.1. At the top of the lane, Velasquez chirped in Retribution's ear and he galloped home, hitting the wire in 137.1 and winning by 3 1/4 widening lengths.
Retribution won a first level allowance test at Saratoga on September 5th, a second level allowance at Belmont on October 2nd and completed the troika at Aqueduct in the Stallion Stakes where he also broke his maiden on April 15th.
The victory propelled Retribution's earnings to $191,000 as he has now run 8 times on the turf, with 4 wins, 3 seconds and one troubled trip in the Jersey Derby.
